Two arches made of 36 containers, conceived for the city's 500th anniversary in 2017: Vincent Ganivet's Catène has become, according to the tourist office, the Eiffel Tower of Le Havre. This blend of concrete, port and sea gives the city a face that no other has. Le Havre has 166,687 inhabitants in 2023 according to Insee. Esekai comes from Paris to film UGC videos, TikTok formats and social ads that make the most of these straight lines, these big skies and this English Channel light.
See our workThe city rebuilt by Perret's atelier
The tourist office recalls that the reconstruction of Le Havre was the work of Auguste Perret and his atelier of about a hundred architects, and that it earned the city UNESCO recognition fifty years later. Prefabrication, worked concrete, rectilinear perspectives: for a camera, this city centre is an exceptional graphic backdrop. The église Saint-Joseph, 107 metres high, lights up its lantern tower with 12,768 mouth-blown stained-glass panes, the work of master glassmaker Marguerite Huré. A fashion, design or furniture brand finds backgrounds of rare sharpness here, which show off products without overwhelming them. The streets with regular façades lend themselves to moving shots, a creator walking, a bike crossing the frame, and the big avenues open onto the sea. We choose our routes according to the time of day, because low sun sculpts the concrete.
Niemeyer, Nouvel and the Docks Vauban
After Perret, Oscar Niemeyer built the Volcan in the early 1980s, a theatre and library whose curves contrast with the straight lines of the centre. In the southern districts, Jean Nouvel designed the Bains des Docks, an aquatic complex of about ten pools inspired by Roman baths. Very close by, facing the Carré des Docks, the Docks Vauban, converted 19th-century warehouses, host some sixty fashion, sports and home-furnishing stores, a Pathé cinema and restaurants. For a retailer in this centre, it is a natural place to shoot UGC try-on or shopping videos, Saturday-afternoon TikToks or a local ad that gives the address. The Carré des Docks, a conference centre and exhibition park, also lets you film a professional event and cut short formats from it for LinkedIn, before and after the trade show.
What the Le Havre market represents
Beyond its 166,687 inhabitants, the commune offered 73,438 jobs in 2023 and had 4,739 employer establishments at the end of 2024, 73.9% of them in trade, transport and services and 68.7% with 1 to 9 employees, according to Insee. The density reaches 3,550.3 inhabitants per km². It is an important local market for shopkeepers, restaurateurs and neighbourhood services, but also an audience that responds to what looks like them. A Meta ad shot in Le Havre, with people from Le Havre and places they recognise, is more likely to convince than a generic spot. The unemployment rate for 15 to 64-year-olds, at 18.5% in 2023, also makes video a useful tool for employers and training organisations that are recruiting: an employee talking about their job on the port or in a workshop speaks directly to candidates.
Un Été au Havre, the MuMa and the pebble beach
Since 2017, Un Été au Havre has invited international artists every year to create works in public space. Some of them stay: the 10-metre white concrete portico by Lang and Baumann set on the pebbles at the end of the avenue Foch, the fountain Impact in the bassin du Commerce whose jets collide, or Monsieur Goéland in front of the Muséum. These works offer free, recognisable settings for TikToks about leisure, restaurants or hotels. Facing the sea, the MuMa, opened in 1961 and described by the tourist office as the second-largest Impressionist collection after Orsay thanks to the 2004 Senn-Foulds donation, attracts a cultural audience. In summer, the pebble beach and its promenade provide holiday shots; in winter, the low light and changing skies give a more dramatic mood, much appreciated by technical-clothing brands.
Working with the wind and the light of the Channel
On the English Channel, the weather dictates the schedule. We arrive from Paris by train and always keep an indoor option, the Docks Vauban or your premises, in case the sky closes in. On clear days, Perret's centre is filmed in the morning, when the shadows draw out the façades; the quays and the Catène are kept for the late afternoon. In between, your team or your customers talk to camera. Permits from the town hall and from the managers of private sites are requested before we leave, and creators come from Normandy when the target is local. The edit makes use of the city's contrasts, concrete, containers and sea, to give each hook an image that cannot be mistaken for any other.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
