In Bordeaux, 29.8% of the 265,328 residents recorded by Insee in 2022 are aged 15 to 29, the audience most TikTok and Reels campaigns target. Esekai, a Paris-based video agency, comes to shoot creative ads, UGC videos and organic content on location for Bordeaux businesses: wine merchants in the Chartrons, restaurants in Saint-Pierre, start-ups around Saint-Jean station, shops on rue Sainte-Catherine. The team steps off the train in the morning and heads home in the evening with rushes already sorted by format.
See our work79,062 young adults in a metropolitan area of 831,500 people
Insee's 2022 figure gives 79,062 Bordeaux residents aged 15 to 29, in a commune that is only part of the wider urban area: Bordeaux Métropole reports 831,500 inhabitants in 2023 across 28 communes, growing by 1.2% a year. For a Meta campaign, the targeting question therefore arises at the brief stage. A gym in La Bastide or a shop in the Saint-Michel district aims at a radius of a few tram stops, whereas a brand present in Mérignac and Pessac thinks at the scale of the 28 communes. On the casting side, this student population makes it easier to recruit UGC creators who talk like their followers, know the local codes and can shoot at home, in Talence or in the Chartrons. An ad filmed in front of blond stone façades, with a local creator, is instantly recognisable in a Bordeaux resident's feed.
Aerospace, wine trade and digital: three different video needs
The 2023 economic profile from Invest in Bordeaux ranks ArianeGroup (3,300 employees), Thales (2,700), Dassault Aviation (2,400) and Cdiscount (2,300) among the largest employers in Gironde. For these groups and their subcontractors, video is first of all a recruitment tool: a technician describing their job in forty seconds, shot in the areas security allows, speaks to 15-29-year-olds better than a job ad. Wine remains the department's top employer according to the same source, with 60,000 direct and indirect jobs, 300 trading companies and 80 brokers. Here, the shoots are B2B: presentation of a vintage for importers, subtitled in English, or behind the scenes of a wine cellar for LinkedIn. The digital companies that have set up in recent years, such as Ubisoft, Deezer or Back Market, mainly need employer branding and product creative ads adapted into several hooks.
Restaurants, the Capucins and 7.2 million overnight stays
The Bordeaux Métropole Tourist and Convention Office counted 7.2 million commercial overnight stays in 2024. French visitors make up 73% of tourists, and one in five comes from Île-de-France: a restaurant in Saint-Pierre can therefore use Reels to target Parisians planning their weekend, a fortnight before they leave. Among foreign visitors, the Spanish come first, ahead of the British, Americans and Germans, which justifies Spanish and English subtitles on the same video. At the Capucins market, we film a producer serving oysters at the counter or a tight shot of a canelé being cut, short formats that work organically on TikTok. For a shop on rue Sainte-Catherine, we favour fitting-room try-on UGC, with a creator commenting on her purchases as she walks towards place de la Comédie.
Quays, Porte Cailhau and Bassins à flot, depending on the season
The Garonne quays and the miroir d'eau remain the most recognisable backdrop, provided you shoot early and check the port calendar: Bordeaux received 38 cruise ship calls in 2024, that many days when the quays fill up. The Porte Cailhau, whose new visitor trail drew 19,000 people the same year, offers a medieval backdrop. The five river cruise companies ran 172 departures in 2024: a boat's deck can serve as the setting for a sunset Reel, with the company's agreement. Further north, the Bassins à flot, a former port area redeveloped as an eco-district, suit lifestyle brands, and Darwin, on the right bank, suits rawer shoots. May brings the Foire internationale at the Parc des Expositions. Conventions fill the calendar all year: 3,300 business events in 2024 and 16% more convention days, so many stands to film.
A day of shooting from Saint-Jean station
The best high-speed rail journey time between Paris and Bordeaux is 2h04, according to Invest in Bordeaux's 2023 profile. The team leaves Montparnasse on the first train and starts filming mid-morning, with no hotel night needed for a simple project. Everything is prepared in advance from our offices at 40 rue du Colisée: location scouting from photos and video calls, casting of Bordeaux-based UGC creators, permit requests when a scene occupies public space on the quays. A typical day starts at the Capucins as the stalls are being set up, continues with lunch service in a restaurant, spends the afternoon in a shop or in your offices at Euratlantique, and ends on the quays in the evening light. No drones at Esekai: we stay on the ground, with a stabiliser or handheld. The agency founded by Tony Lo, which has supported more than 350 brands, shoots several hooks in the same day to feed weeks of ad testing.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
