Beneath the five domes of Saint-Front, place Saint-Louis turns into a foie gras market every winter, and it is often there that a Périgord brand finds its best images. Périgueux had 29,876 inhabitants in 2022 according to Insee, but 22,141 jobs in 2023: the town works for its whole catchment area. Esekai, a Paris-based studio for social content, makes the trip with its equipment to shoot TikTok and Meta creative ads, UGC videos and Reels, then edits several versions of each idea to test as ads.
See our workA prefecture that employs far more people than it houses
Insee's 2022 census gives Périgueux 29,876 inhabitants, with a population stable since 2016 and 30.3% aged 60 or over (17.3% aged 60 to 74, 13.0% aged 75 or over). Against that, Insee's full file counts 22,141 jobs in the commune in 2023. In other words, a good share of the customers of a town-centre shop live in Trélissac, Boulazac or Chancelade and come into town to work or shop. For a Meta ad, the targeting area must therefore cover the whole conurbation, not just the commune. The older audience is better reached on Facebook and Instagram with calm, subtitled videos that show the product in hand and the person selling it. The 22.8% aged 15 to 29, meanwhile, respond to fast TikTok formats shot by a creator of their own age.
Health, administration and the Boulazac stamp printworks
According to Insee, public administration, education, health and social work account for 54.1% of Périgueux's jobs in 2023, and trade, transport and miscellaneous services for 37.5%. Care facilities and public services recruit continuously: a short video in which a nurse or a civil servant talks about their day says more than a text job ad. Right next door, in Boulazac, the La Poste printworks inaugurated in 1970 is described as the group's only production site for philatelic issues and security printing, with more than a billion postage marks a year. Engravers, intaglio presses, sheets of stamps rolling past: this kind of rare know-how is filmed in close-up for LinkedIn or a careers page. The industrial SMEs in the Boulazac business parks have the same need for images of their trades to recruit technicians.
Foie gras, truffles and 852 trade establishments
Insee's file counts 3,371 active establishments in Périgueux in 2024, of which 852 are in trade, transport, accommodation and food service. The town publishes its own calendar itself: the Coderc covered market every morning from Tuesday to Sunday, big markets on Wednesday and Saturday that spread onto place de la Clautre and place du Coderc, the foie gras market on place Saint-Louis on Wednesday and Saturday between November and March, with around thirty producers from the département, then truffles from December to February. For a producer or a preserves maker, the Reel almost writes itself: the stall in the cold morning light, a stuffed duck breast being sliced, the customer tasting. A restaurant in the Saint-Front district can film a seasonal dish as a UGC video, served by a local creator who tells the story of their trip to the market before sitting down to eat.
Saint-Front, the Tour de Vésone and the banks of the Isle
Périgueux has belonged to the network of Villes d'art et d'histoire since 1987, and the departmental tourist board lists 44 buildings registered or classified as historic monuments. Saint-Front Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, offers its Byzantine domes and rooftops open to visitors. The Tour de Vésone, almost 20 metres of 2nd-century stone, and the Vesunna Gallo-Roman museum, built over the ruins of a domus, provide an ancient backdrop within ten minutes' walk. Along the Isle, the riverside greenway runs for more than 80 km: perfect for a cycling or sports brand that wants a shot in motion. On the calendar side, winter belongs to the foie gras markets and truffles, summer to the Mimos mime festival, which takes over the squares of the centre. The narrow medieval streets are best filmed early in the morning, before the terraces.
Preparing a shoot in the Dordogne from Paris
Périgueux has no high-speed line: the team takes the train with a change at Limoges or Bordeaux, or drives when the equipment is heavier, and stays overnight the day before to be at the market as soon as it opens. Before the trip, everything is settled remotely from our offices at 40 rue du Colisée: approved script, permits to film in the public domain or inside a shop, and, for a UGC campaign, casting of creators who live in the Dordogne and speak with the accent of their customers. In a single day, we can chain together shots of a stall at the Coderc, an interview in a workshop in Boulazac in the afternoon and a lifestyle sequence on the banks of the Isle at the end of the day. Editing is done in Paris, using the method that Esekai, founded by Tony Lo, has applied for more than 350 brands: one shoot, a series of hooks.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
