A grill smoking on quai Henri-IV, herrings in rows and a queue of customers on the third weekend of November: in Dieppe, the sea is as much to be eaten as to be looked at. The port mixes ferries to England, scallop fishing and pleasure boating. The town had 28,496 residents in 2023 according to Insee. For Dieppe's restaurants, shops and businesses, the script is finalised in Paris before we arrive, and the day on site produces UGC, TikToks and ad formats.
See our workA small town that employs well beyond its residents
The 2023 census gives Dieppe 28,496 residents, a figure that is slowly eroding, by 0.3% a year since 2017. But it concentrates 16,320 jobs, or more than one job for every two residents. Public services, the port, shops, services: a large part of the Dieppe area comes into town every day to work and shop. For a local brand, the real catchment area therefore extends well beyond the town. An ad that spoke only to the people of Dieppe would leave out residents of the surrounding villages, who go to the big Saturday market or the restaurants by the port. Hence our habit of delivering the same film twice: one cut for the town, with its streets and landmarks, the other for the hinterland, which stresses access, parking and the reason to make the trip.
Cross-Channel, fishing and ship repair
The Port de Dieppe itself presents its activities: cross-Channel ferries, trade, fishing, pleasure boating, ship repair and offshore wind. The tourist office adds a dry-stack marina presented as unique in France, built in a former dry dock. In the town, Insee counted 1,118 employer establishments at the end of 2024, of which 72% are very small teams (fewer than ten employees) and 4.7% are industrial. These maritime trades recruit sailors, mechanics, welders and maintenance technicians, and often struggle to make themselves known to young people. A portrait shot aboard a trawler on its return from fishing, a day filmed in a ship repair workshop or a visit to an offshore wind site gives candidates a concrete picture of the job. The youngest will see them on TikTok; experienced sailors and technicians, more likely on LinkedIn.
Grilled herrings, scallops and the big Saturday market
According to the tourist office, the Foire aux Harengs et à la Coquille Saint-Jacques takes place every third weekend of November, and from Saturday morning restaurants, brasseries and bars prepare for the lunchtime rush. The herring is eaten fresh off the grill with a potato baked in the embers. The rest of the year, the big Saturday market in the town centre and the fish markets by the port give the same kind of images: close-up product, the seller's gesture, the customer tasting. In the town, 74.9% of employer establishments are in trade, transport and services according to Insee. For a fish restaurant or a fishmonger, a twenty-second Reel published during Fair week, with the grill and the queue, is worth all the posters.
Seafront, castle and September kites
Dieppe's seafront, with its lawns and long promenade, was redesigned in the 19th century at the instigation of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoléon III, the tourist office points out. It is the setting for wide shots, with the pebble beach, the cliffs and the castle overlooking the town. The churches, the chapel dedicated to sailors and the old façades of the centre serve for tighter shots. The calendar has two very different highlights. For 9 days in September, the Festival International de Cerfs-Volants takes over the eight hectares of seafront lawns, with more than 200 kite flyers expected in 2025 from around the world. In November, the Foire aux Harengs fills quai Henri-IV. The rest of the time, the shifting light of the Channel gives very photogenic skies, as long as you leave a margin for the weather.
Paris Saint-Lazare, then a day between the quay and the town centre
We reach Dieppe by train from Paris Saint-Lazare, changing at Rouen, or by road when the equipment requires it. Preparation is done remotely: script, hooks, creator profiles, list of locations, permits for filming in public space or in a port area. On shoot day, we start early at the port, when the boats come in and the stalls go up. Late morning is for scenes in a shop or at the market, early afternoon for interviews on your premises, and the end of the day for exteriors on the seafront, with the staged scenes of a UGC creator who records several openings for the ads. The rest happens in the editing room, in Paris, with each video adapted for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
