A 140-metre fountain, a cobbled old town and quays where diplomats, watchmakers and tourists cross paths: in just a few streets, Geneva offers settings the whole world recognises. The City of Geneva had 210,601 residents at the end of 2025 according to the Office cantonal de la statistique, within a canton of 537,935 residents at the end of June 2026. For Geneva brands, shops and restaurants, everything is arranged from Paris, then a single day on site is enough to bring back UGC, TikTok videos and Instagram ads.
See our work13,150 residents per km²: a very dense city
According to OCSTAT, the City of Geneva has 210,601 residents at the end of 2025 across 1,589 hectares, not counting the lake, or 13,150 residents per km². That is big-city density, packed into a modest-sized municipality. The canton itself had 537,191 residents in 2025, up 1.3% on the year. For a brand, this concentration changes how you target: a shop in Les Pâquis or Plainpalais can aim at a radius of a few streets and still reach tens of thousands of people. The clientele is also very international: 42% of the canton's residents are foreign nationals according to OCSTAT, not counting cross-border commuters and passing visitors. We often plan French and English versions of the same video, with carefully crafted subtitles, so that the ad speaks to all of these communities.
Diplomacy, watchmaking and chocolate
Genève Tourisme presents the city as a capital of haute horlogerie, and notes that Geneva chocolate dates back to 1826, the year of the first factory. The same tourist office cites world-renowned places of science and diplomacy as one of the destination's facets. These worlds have one thing in common: they sell demanding craftsmanship, which is better shown than described. For a watchmaker or a chocolatier, a very tight shot on the craftsperson's hands, with no voice-over, works in advertising and as organic content alike. For an organisation, an NGO or a service company recruiting internationally, portraits of employees shot in the offices or by the lake show the quality of life, a decisive argument for a candidate hesitating over moving to Switzerland.
27 weekly markets and the Plainpalais flea market
The City of Geneva runs 27 weekly markets spread across its neighbourhoods, with retail markets in more than a dozen locations, and the Plaine de Plainpalais hosts one of the largest flea markets in Switzerland, entirely outdoors. For a greengrocer, a cheesemonger or a caterer, the market provides the setting for a simple Reel: close-up of the product, the gesture, a chat with a customer. For a vintage fashion or home decor brand, a UGC creator who browses the Plainpalais flea market and then shows off their finds at home tells a credible story. As for restaurants, the terraces of Les Pâquis, the gentler atmosphere of Carouge and the cafés of the Old Town offer three very different moods. A single venue can shoot three versions of its video depending on the audience it wants to attract.
Jet d'eau, Old Town and the Fête de l'Escalade
The Jet d'eau shoots 500 litres of water per second up to 140 metres high, Genève Tourisme reminds us: it is the obvious opening shot, from the Eaux-Vives jetty or the quays. The Old Town, the largest historic city in Switzerland according to the tourist office, is dominated by Saint-Pierre Cathedral, a major site of the Reformation, and its cobbled lanes suit more intimate shots. The calendar matters too. The Fête de l'Escalade, Geneva's most popular historic festival, will run from 11 to 13 December 2026, with its chocolate cauldrons and traditional soup: perfect for a chocolatier or a restaurant looking for seasonal content. In summer the quays fill up and the light falls late over the lake. Spring and autumn remain the most comfortable for filming without crowds.
From Gare de Lyon to Cornavin: a shoot prepared remotely
We travel to Geneva on a direct train from Gare de Lyon, with light equipment that crosses the border without difficulty. Everything is prepared remotely: script, hooks, creator casting, running order and, for a scene in public space, the permit request to the City of Geneva. For private locations, hotels, shops, offices, we obtain the owners' agreement beforehand. On the day of the shoot, we start early on the quays to enjoy the light on the lake and the Jet d'eau without crowds, then move on to interiors and interviews, and finish with a UGC creator's candid to-camera confessions. Editing is done on rue du Colisée, in French and in English if needed, with one version per platform.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
