According to the Town, no French city that has kept its timber-built heritage retains as much of it as Troyes, and its colourful half-timbered façades stand comparison with any studio.

According to the Town, no French city that has kept its timber-built heritage retains as much of it as Troyes, and its colourful half-timbered façades stand comparison with any studio. The town had 62,088 inhabitants in 2023 according to Insee, at the heart of a conurbation that draws shoppers from all over France to its outlet stores. We travel up from Paris to shoot the UGC content, TikToks and ads of Troyes's retailers, restaurants and businesses.
See our workA Dense, Stable City That Draws Beyond Its Limits
Insee describes a town with an almost stable population, with 62,088 inhabitants in 2023 and a change of 0.1% a year since 2017. What stands out is the density: 4,703.6 inhabitants per km², that of a compact town where much is done on foot in the centre. The town also concentrated 33,245 jobs in 2023, more than one job for every two inhabitants: part of the Aube comes here every day to work. For a local brand, there are therefore three audiences to tell apart. The Troyens of the centre, who buy close to home; the people of the conurbation who come for work or shopping; the visitors from other regions who come for the outlet stores. A single video can be adapted for each, with a different hook in the first seconds and the same shoot behind it.
From Hosiery to Outlet Stores
The Town recalls that Troyes became the capital of hosiery and knitwear in the nineteenth century, with a golden age between 1885 and 1910 and sawtooth-roofed factories in the suburbs. This heritage now feeds three brand-outlet centres: McArthurGlen at Pont-Sainte-Marie, with more than 110 manufacturer shops for more than 210 major brands, Marques City and its more than 30 stores in 11 buildings, and Marques Avenue at Saint-Julien-les-Villas, with 35 shops. For a retailer in these centres, a shopping UGC video, a creator who shows off their finds in the fitting room or on leaving the store, speaks directly to visitors planning their day on TikTok. For a textile company that is still active, the knitting machines and the know-how of the operators make very telling employer-brand portraits.
Andouillette, Champagne and Shops in the Shape of a Cork
In the town, Insee counted 2,091 employer establishments at the end of 2024, of which 68.7% have 1 to 9 employees and 72.7% are in trade, transport and services. This is the world of independent shops, restaurants and wine merchants of the historic centre, whose layout traces the shape of a champagne cork. For a restaurant, a Troyes andouillette served steaming, filmed in close-up with the sound of the knife, makes a Reel that needs no commentary. A wine merchant can show a glass of Côte des Bar champagne or a pays d'Othe cider opened in front of the camera, reminding viewers that Champagne begins at the town's gates. For a shop, a UGC creator strolling through the lanes before pushing open the shop door gives a video that is both local and desirable.
Half-Timbering, the Fairs of Champagne and the Ruelle des Chats
The main backdrop is the half-timbered houses and the mansions with Champagne chequerboard patterns, rebuilt after the great fire of 24 May 1524, which destroyed 1,500 houses according to the Town. The Ruelle des Chats, narrow and dark, provides an immediately recognisable opening shot; the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul and its stained glass serve for wide shots. The Saint-Jean district recalls the Fairs of Champagne, of which the hot fair began on 24 June and the cold fair on 1 October. As for seasons, spring and early autumn offer a soft light on the façades and streets without crowds; December, with its shop windows and illuminations, suits festive content. On sale weekends, the outlet centres are full: useful for atmosphere, less so for a calm product shot.
From Paris, a Well-Filled Round Trip
We travel up to Troyes by train from the Gare de l'Est or by road when the equipment is bulkier. Preparation is done remotely: script, hooks to test, creator profiles, plan for the day, permit requests when equipment is set up outdoors or in a shopping centre. On the day of the shoot, we start with the exteriors of the historic centre early in the morning, when the lanes are empty. Late morning is for interviews at your premises or in the shop, early afternoon for restaurant scenes, and the end of the day for the lines of a UGC creator framed from the chest up, with several openings for the ads. Sorting the rushes and editing are then done in-house, with one version per network, and the files reach you ready to publish.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
