Every winter, Mulhouse dresses its streets in a Christmas fabric designed for the occasion, the mark of a city that made its fortune in textiles before cars. With 104,978 inhabitants counted by Insee in 2023, the commune leads a conurbation turned towards Switzerland and Germany. From our Paris offices, we come to film creative ads, UGC videos, Reels and TikTok content for the shops, manufacturers and visitor attractions of Southern Alsace.
See our workTwelve thousand workers who cross the border
According to ADIRA's 2025 key figures, based on Insee's 2022 census, Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération brings together 39 communes and 272,950 inhabitants, and 12,032 working residents work in a neighbouring country. A brand targeting this audience is speaking to people who spend their day in Switzerland or Germany and come home to Alsace in the evening: staggered hours, Saturday shopping, a feel for German. For a local retailer, this translates into concrete variations, such as the same UGC video subtitled in French and German, or a hook designed for the end of the working day. In the commune, Insee counts 55,688 jobs in 2023 for 35,485 employed residents: Mulhouse draws in employees from neighbouring communes every day, and a geotargeted ad can reach them at their workplace.
Stellantis and an industry in transformation
The conurbation has been producing cars for more than 60 years at the Stellantis site in Mulhouse, m2A recalled on 26 May 2026, the day the Élysée announced the group's decision to invest there to build electric vehicles from 2029. Industry remains a major employer, even though it has shrunk a lot: ADIRA counts 14,806 industrial employees in m2A's competitive sector at the end of 2024, a workforce down 44% since 2008. For the subcontractors, workshops and engineering offices of the area, video serves to attract technicians and to showcase expertise: a portrait of a machine setter on his line, a filmed tour of a workshop, an interview with a site manager for LinkedIn. These formats require little equipment and a great deal of preparation with the safety teams.
Place de la Réunion, the fabric and the Christmas market
The 2025 Christmas market was opened on 21 November around place de la Réunion. The City explains that Mulhouse textile designer Marie-Jo Gebel drew the fabric of the year on a glacier-blue background, inspired by the legend of the pearls of the Rhine, and that the chalets offered sauerkraut, knepfles, currywurst, pretzels and läckerli from Basel. A twelve-minute light projection also animated, for the third year running, the façade of the Société industrielle de Mulhouse. For a shopkeeper or restaurateur in the centre, this is the season that justifies daily Reels: a stall opening, a dish served, a customer tasting. Outside Christmas, Insee ranked 2,380 active establishments in 2024, or 27% of the total, in the trade, transport, accommodation and food services block, and in early 2026 the city had 18 hotels totalling 1,210 rooms.
Cité du Train, the Schlumpf collection and painted façades
Mulhouse has kept rare filming locations from its industrial past. The Cité du Train, on rue Alfred de Glehn, presents itself as the largest railway museum in Europe: steam locomotives and vintage carriages make backdrops that no studio can reproduce. The Cité de l'Automobile, which houses the Schlumpf brothers' collection, lends itself to content for brands linked to mobility or design. In the town centre, the Saint-Étienne church and the town hall with its painted façades frame place de la Réunion, recognisable in a second on TikTok. The calendar reads in two parts: the cold season for end-of-year campaigns, with the Christmas market, opened on 21 November in 2025, then the fine weather for terraces and outdoor shots. For a museum or visitor attraction, we prefer to film before the doors open to the public, when the rooms are empty.
Preparing a shoot in Mulhouse
We reach Mulhouse by train from Paris, laden with a few suitcases of equipment, then get around by tram in the centre. Before travelling, everything is sorted remotely: script, shot list, permits from museums or shops, and casting of Alsatian creators when the campaign has to speak to cross-border workers, sometimes with a German-language version. A typical day starts in a workshop or factory in the conurbation, when the morning teams are on shift. Lunch is filmed in a winstub or a restaurant in the centre, the afternoon is devoted to the shop or visitor attraction, and the end of the day is used for atmosphere shots on place de la Réunion. Back on rue du Colisée, the team founded by Tony Lo, which has worked for more than 350 brands, assembles several variations of each film, each with a different opening.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
