The Queen Mary 2 and the liner France both came out of the Saint-Nazaire shipyards, and the city is still building giants while Airbus assembles its aircraft here. That industrial weight sits alongside a coastline of 20 beaches and coves. According to Insee, the town had 74,568 residents in 2023, growing by 1.1% a year since 2017. We travel from Paris to film UGC content, TikToks and recruitment videos on location for Saint-Nazaire's manufacturers, shops and restaurants, after full preparation beforehand.
See our workA city that is growing thanks to newcomers
According to Insee, Saint-Nazaire had 74,568 residents in 2023, with annual growth of 1.1% since 2017, even though natural change is slightly negative: it is new arrivals that make the difference. Many come for an industrial job, a transfer or a first hire. The town had 42,658 jobs in 2023. For a local brand, these new residents are a valuable audience: they do not yet have their bakery, their gym, their Friday-night restaurant. They search on Instagram, Google and TikTok. A short video that shows the address, the team and the atmosphere answers their search directly. We often prepare a "welcome to Saint-Nazaire" version that speaks to people discovering the city, and another for long-standing residents.
Liners, aircraft and the leading port on the Atlantic coast
The tourist office presents three major industrial players in the area: the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, which built the France, the Queen Mary 2 and the Harmony of the Seas; the workshops of Airbus and Airbus Atlantic; and the Grand Port Maritime Nantes Saint-Nazaire, the leading port on France's Atlantic coast. Insee counted 2,203 employer establishments in the town at the end of 2024, 7.7% of them in industry. Around these prime contractors, many subcontractors are looking for welders, boilermakers, electricians and technicians. For them, a recruitment video is not a luxury. A portrait of a female welder filmed in the workshop, a guided tour by a team leader, a typical day shot to the rhythm of the shipyard: all of these make people want to apply far more than a written job ad.
Les Halles, around a hundred traders four mornings a week
According to the city council, the Halles market in Saint-Nazaire brings together around a hundred traders, 90% of them in food, with food stalls open in summer on Tuesdays from 7.30am to 12.30pm, on Fridays and Saturdays until 1pm and on Sundays until 1.30pm. You will find dairy sellers, butchers, crêpe makers, bakers (two of them organic), organic vegetable and poultry producers, and Portuguese, Asian, Italian and Réunionese specialities. For a trader, it is a ready-made set: the product, the gesture, the chat with a loyal customer. For a restaurant or a seafront bar, a Reel that starts at the market in the morning and ends on a terrace facing the estuary tells the story of a day in Saint-Nazaire in twenty seconds. A UGC creator who shops at Les Halles and then cooks at home also works very well for a regional food brand.
Submarine base, Escal'Atlantic and Monsieur Hulot's beach
The submarine base, a concrete block set in front of the port, is the city's rawest backdrop, ideal for a fashion or sports brand that wants concrete and horizon. It houses Escal'Atlantic, dedicated to the great ocean liners, and the Espadon, the first French submarine to dive under the ice pack, according to the tourist office. On the seaward side, the city claims 20 beaches and coves, 6 of them supervised in summer, and one film-star beach, Saint-Marc-sur-Mer, where Jacques Tati shot Les Vacances de M. Hulot. The seafront, the statue of the Sammy and the coastal path towards Pornichet are used for outdoor shots. Spring and early autumn give a soft light and beaches that are still quiet; summer brings the crowds and the buzz.
Preparing the shoot around the constraints of an industrial site
We come to Saint-Nazaire by train from Paris, with equipment suited to workshops and beaches alike. For an industrial company, preparation matters as much as the shoot itself: a shot list to be approved with management and the safety department, areas and machines not to be shown, protective equipment, team schedules. For a shop or restaurant, we fix the scripts, the hooks and the creator casting. On the day, we start early at Les Halles or in the workshop, just as activity gets going. Interviews are shot towards the end of the morning, exteriors by the sea or at the submarine base in the afternoon, along with the messages a UGC creator records looking straight into the lens for ads. We then edit the videos at our Paris premises, and each video is adapted for TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
