At the height of the wool industry, Roubaix had 353 factory chimneys, the tourist office points out, and the city billed itself as the world capital of textiles. What remains is brick, courées, wastelands turned into workshops, and 98,286 inhabitants in 2023 according to Insee. We take the train from Paris to film UGC content, TikToks and Meta ads here that make the most of this industrial setting and the fashion culture that has replaced it.

According to Roubaix Tourisme, the city remains resolutely textile after the crisis of the 1970s, with four schools for fashion and textile trades, eight head offices of major ready-to-wear brands, two bargain centres and a fashion district. It is natural ground for fashion video: try-ons filmed by UGC creators, behind the scenes at a design studio, a collection presented in a former factory. Ready-to-wear brands need large volumes of short content for their Meta and TikTok ads, with several body types, several styles and several hooks per product. A well-prepared shoot day can deliver dozens. Young designers based in the city’s workshops, meanwhile, tend to look for a portrait format in which they present their work by hand, in their own words.
A dense city that has to be filmed up close
Roubaix has 7,429 inhabitants per km² in 2023, and only 33.5% of households own their main residence, according to Insee. The unemployment rate for 15 to 64-year-olds reached 25.2% the same year. This context affects how you speak to the people of Roubaix: the messages that work are concrete, useful and close to home, not aspirational. For a training organisation, an employer that is hiring or a local service, a video in which a resident tells their story, shot in their own street, has more impact than a campaign that could come from anywhere. The city offered 38,370 jobs in 2023 and had 2,645 employer establishments at the end of 2024, 69.8% of them in trade, transport and services. Recruitment is therefore a real video subject, with short formats designed for TikTok and Instagram, where candidates are.
La Piscine, the Manufacture and the Condition Publique
The former Art Deco swimming pool commissioned by mayor Jean Lebas has become the La Piscine museum, free for its permanent collections on the first Sunday of every month. That day, the Open Roubaix initiative also opens cultural venues, shops and artists’ studios: the Condition Publique, the Le Vestiaire boutique, the Manufacture, museum of textile memory and creation, or the Ateliers Jouret. For a brand, that Sunday is best avoided if you want empty venues, but perfect for filming a lively neighbourhood atmosphere. Former factories such as Motte-Bossut or Le Non Lieu offer large volumes of brick and steel, much sought after for fashion shoots and lifestyle brand ads. The town hall, designed in 1911 as an emblem of the world capital of textiles, serves as a solemn backdrop for an institutional video.
Restaurants, street art and cycling
On the first Sunday of the month, the tourist office offers a tour of the town centre along the Fil de Brique from 11 am to 12:30 pm, then invites visitors to choose a table among the addresses in the centre. For a restaurateur, the most effective Reel shows the kitchen in action and the dining room filling up, with a signature dish filmed in close-up. Street art, which the tourist office promotes among the city’s tours, provides colourful backdrops for TikToks by brands targeting 18 to 30-year-olds. Cycling is also part of Roubaix’s identity: the Paris-Roubaix race ends at the velodrome every spring, and cycling, sportswear or nutrition brands find a setting steeped in history. We film these exteriors early in the morning, when the streets are quiet and the light is soft on the brick.
One wasteland, several looks, several creators
For a fashion brand, logistics matter as much as the image. We book the chosen factory or workshop, have the pieces delivered the day before and organise fitting slots for three or four creators from the Lille metropolitan area with different silhouettes. The crew comes from Paris the same morning by train. The looks follow one another in the brick through the morning; the afternoon is reserved for to-camera reviews, calmer, and for close-ups of fabric that Meta ads use as hooks. When the light drops, we go out into the streets for a few walking shots. In the edit, each piece gets several versions, with different openings, so that ad testing can pick the one that sells.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
