Three toasted hazelnuts, nougatine and flakes of dark chocolate: the Picantin, created in the 1920s, takes its name from the three figures who strike the bells of the town hall belfry. Compiègne is full of details a camera loves. According to Insee, the town had 40,761 inhabitants in 2023, and the tourist office says it lies an hour from Paris. Esekai goes there to film TikTok formats, UGC videos and Meta ads that start from the château, the forest and the shops in the centre.
See our workFrom the Second Empire to the Armistice clearing
The Compiègne-Pierrefonds tourist office sums up the area’s history in three sites: the Château de Pierrefonds for the Middle Ages, the Château de Compiègne for the Second Empire and the Clairière de l’Armistice for the First World War. For a brand, these places offer highly recognisable backdrops, but using them takes method. A hotel, restaurant or shop can include them in a discovery Reel (“a day in Compiègne”) without making them the main subject. A fashion or jewellery brand, meanwhile, can aim for a more ambitious shoot in the gardens or around the château, provided it obtains the managers’ agreement. The Clairière de l’Armistice, a place of remembrance, is poorly suited to commercial advertising: we keep it for cultural or institutional content, in an appropriate tone.
What Insee says about the town
With 767.6 inhabitants per km² in 2023, Compiègne remains a human-scale town, offering 26,565 jobs the same year. Insee records 1,662 employer establishments there at the end of 2024, of which 73.3% are in trade, transport and services and 69.5% have 1 to 9 employees; public administration, education, health and social work account for 16.6% of establishments. Only 34.4% of households own their main residence, and the town is home to the Université de technologie de Compiègne. For a brand, that points to two targets: a mobile student population, very present on TikTok, and settled families who use the town centre and the forest at weekends. We do not film them in the same place or with the same creators.
Picantins, Mâchicoulis and chocolate from Ecuador
The area has its specialities, and they come across well on video. In Compiègne, the pâtisserie that makes the Picantin, a registered trademark, has added new creations such as the “Marjorie” or the “Rocher Compiégnois”, all made on site. In Pierrefonds, the Mâchicoulis, a salted butter caramel coated in almonds, has existed since 1926. The chocolatier Beussent-Lachelle has had its own cocoa plantation in Ecuador, on the banks of the Río Napo, since 2007, and opens its doors to visitors. These stories are perfect for food UGC: a creator who opens the box, tells the story behind the name and tastes it on camera. For a pâtisserie or chocolatier, a Reel of the making process shot in the workshop, followed by a shot in the shop, feeds the account for weeks, especially in the run-up to Christmas and Easter.
The state forest, a setting for all four seasons
The tourist office encourages visitors to stroll through the Forêt de Compiègne between visits, and highlights its parks and gardens. For an outdoor, cycling, wellness or clothing brand, it is a setting that changes with every season: deep green in spring, filtered light in summer, vivid colours in autumn, mist in winter. The office even offers a programme for experiencing autumn in Compiègne-Pierrefonds, proof that the season draws people. A TikTok shot in the forest at sunrise, with a creator running, cycling or hiking, works well for sports brands. For accommodation or a restaurant, the forest serves as a transition between two shots: we leave the venue, cross the trees, arrive at the château. We shoot early in the morning, when the paths are almost empty.
Forest at dawn, town centre at midday
The tourist office places Compiègne an hour from Paris, and that proximity changes the organisation: no hotel night, a very early start, a crew in place for the morning mist in the forest. Permits have been dealt with beforehand, with the town hall for the streets and with the managers for the surroundings of the château or the forest roads. Around midday, we join your pâtisserie, shop or offices, when business is in full swing. The students a brand is targeting are filmed rather at the end of the day, when classes finish, with creators of their own age. We return the same evening, and the first edited versions reach you for your feedback before the final delivery of the variants.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
