Shooting, editing and publishing for brands in Charleroi

In Charleroi, one municipality brings together a former colliery on the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Bois du Cazier in Marcinelle, and the BioPark in Gosselies, where 3,500 people work on the campus. Statbel, as relayed by IWEPS, records 206,900 inhabitants there on 1 January 2026, and WIPO, the United Nations agency, named it a "WIPO City of Innovation" for 2026. Our team crosses the border from Paris to shoot Meta and TikTok ads, UGC content and Reels there, filming Carolos at home.

206,900 Carolos across 102.9 km²

IWEPS's WalStat municipal profile gives 206,900 inhabitants on 1 January 2026 for 102.9 km², or 2,009.8 inhabitants per km²; the average age is 40.4 and non-Belgians make up 16.65% of residents. Behind this total lie former municipalities that became sections of the city, whose names keep coming up in the statistical districts: Gosselies, Jumet, Marcinelle, Gilly, Marchienne-au-Pont, Monceau-sur-Sambre. For a brand, ad targeting in Charleroi therefore reaches households that are nothing alike, from the shopping streets of the Ville Basse to the workers' housing estates. We take this into account from the script stage. An ad for a business in Gosselies shows Gosselies, with someone from the area on camera; a campaign for the whole municipality alternates several settings and several profiles in the casting. A viewer who recognises their neighbourhood in the first three seconds keeps watching.

From the BioPark in Gosselies to the A6K-E6K hub

In naming Charleroi a "WIPO City of Innovation" for 2026, the first edition of a distinction shared with Shanghai and Liverpool, WIPO selected, according to the City, the A6K-E6K innovation and training hub and three sectors: bioproduction, biotechnology and aerospace. The BioPark, originally founded by the Université libre de Bruxelles, claims 3,500 people at work on its campus. On the labour market, the same IWEPS profile indicates for 2023 (annual average) 50.3% administrative employment and 22.8% administrative unemployment. Candidates exist; the challenge is to show them jobs they never get to see. Filming a technician describing her morning in the lab or workshop, in a short format published on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn around the municipality, gives these candidates a concrete picture of the role. For a campus start-up, a short B2B format explains a technology without jargon, ready to present at trade shows or to investors.

Rive Gauche, Ville 2 and the Gosselies industrial parks

Retail in Charleroi is split between the centre and the periphery. In the Ville Basse, opposite the Gare Centrale, the Rive Gauche centre, opened in 2017, brings together more than 95 stores over three levels. Ville 2, opened in March 1990 on the former Mambourg slag heap, was, according to the City, the first city-centre shopping centre in Wallonia. To the north, City Nord and Espace Nord, in Gosselies, total 100 stores, 12 restaurants and 5,000 parking spaces. Each place calls for its own format: UGC content in a fitting room or at the beauty counter for a fashion retailer, a TikTok of good finds on the way back from a Saturday at the retail park, a restaurant Reel filmed at the midday rush. A neighbourhood brasserie often gets more from a sincere counter-side video than from an over-polished film.

Sunday morning in Ville Haute, the belfry and the slag heaps

The main market is held every Sunday in the Ville Haute, between 7:30 am and 2 pm, with fruit and vegetables, meat, flowers, clothes and even live hens and ducks: the liveliest setting of the week for a producer. Close by stands the belfry of the Hôtel de Ville: inaugurated in 1936, it rises above 70 metres and is among the Belgian and French belfries listed by UNESCO. The Bois du Cazier houses the Industry and Glass museums; filming there calls for restraint, for a company story or a brand tied to this history. For wide shots, the slag heaps that surround the city offer elevated viewpoints. The Tour de la Madeleine, a procession recognised by UNESCO, takes 2,000 walkers over 22 kilometres. At the end of the year, Ville 2 hosts a Christmas market and opens on certain Sundays, a useful period for retail ads.

From Paris to the Sambre: how a shoot unfolds

Everything that can be settled without a camera is wrapped up beforehand with the brand: copy, shot-by-shot breakdown, requests for access to locations. UGC creators are chosen from profiles who live in Charleroi or its surrounding area, so that the accent and the places ring true. On the day, the team leaves Paris early, by car or by train via Brussels, and starts with the most constrained location: a shop before opening, a laboratory in a reserved slot. The afternoon is for street scenes, on the Sambre quays or in the Ville Haute, then for the to-camera script variants and sound recording. The rushes head back to our Paris offices at 40 rue du Colisée for editing. Since its creation by Tony Lo, Esekai has worked for more than 350 brands, and every delivery contains several different openings, to see which one holds attention once the ad is live.

Why?

Why creative ads deliver better results

An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.

Yes, as long as you warn the traders being filmed and stay light in the aisles. The market runs from 7:30 am to 2 pm: early in the morning, you get clean stalls and few people, while late morning brings the crowd. We shoot handheld, with a lavalier mic for the producer who speaks, and we have anyone recognisable on screen sign a release.

The City presents it as the site of a mining tragedy and a place of remembrance, listed as a World Heritage site. We only shoot there for a subject with a genuine link to Charleroi's industrial history, with the site's agreement, never for a light-hearted ad. For an industrial atmosphere without that weight, the city's slag heaps and former workers' buildings offer other settings.

Over one day, a UGC and TikTok agency like ours aims to capture enough to edit several distinct videos and their variations: to-camera scripts, UGC sequences, reusable location shots for ads. The volume depends on the number of settings. Linking a Rive Gauche shop and a Gosselies laboratory is still feasible, but each journey between two sections of the city cuts into shooting time.

A creative ads agency designs video ads built for social platforms: tested hooks, native 9:16 formats and data-driven iterations. At Esekai, every creative ad is produced in-house in Paris (script, shoot, edit), then adapted for TikTok Ads and Meta Ads to lower your acquisition costs.

Creative ads are structured advertising for paid media (TikTok Ads, Meta Ads). UGC videos mirror authentic creator content to build trust and convert. Organic content builds your social presence over the long term. The three are complementary.

We work on a six-month minimum. A video content strategy performs best over time: the first six months let us test, refine and optimise for durable, compounding results.
