More than 100 murals now cover the centre of Mons and its surroundings, according to visitMons, and they change the backdrop of every video shot in town. The capital of Hainaut also boasts a Baroque belfry listed by UNESCO in 1999 and a Ducasse recognised as intangible heritage since 2005. Esekai, which works from Paris for French and Belgian brands, comes to film UGC videos, TikTok formats and Meta ads built on these landmarks that people from Mons recognise at first glance.
See our workThe Doudou, Saint George and the dragon
The Ducasse de Mons, which everyone calls the Doudou, has been on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage since 2005, visitMons points out. The museum dedicated to it uses giant screens and interactive displays to present the golden lance, the teeth, the medallions and the dragons that make up the legend of Saint George. For a shop, bar or restaurant in the centre, this festival is the busiest and most emotional time of the year: an atmosphere video shot that weekend speaks to everyone in Mons. It does call for specific preparation, though, as the crowds are dense and spots are scarce. We shoot the product shots and testimonials beforehand, then capture the atmosphere with a mobile, discreet two-person crew, without turning the festival's symbols into advertising props.
Baroque belfry, Spiennes and Grand-Hornu
According to visitMons, Hainaut holds the Belgian record for UNESCO-recognised heritage, with more than 20 sites, events and skills. Around Mons, the list includes the Belfry, the only Baroque belfry in Belgium (1999), the Neolithic flint mines of Spiennes (2000), the Grand-Hornu mining site (2012), the Universal Bibliographic Repertory of the Mundaneum, added in 2013 to the Memory of the World register, and the Saint-Symphorien military cemetery (2023). For a hotel, a guide or a tourism brand, these places structure a stay, and the video has to show how you get from one to the next. A UGC creator who starts at the Belfry, has lunch on the Grand-Place and ends at Grand-Hornu tells the story of a real day. For a fashion or design brand, the industrial volumes of Grand-Hornu make an exceptional setting, subject to the site's approval.
Fifteen breweries and sixty beers
The Mons region has more than 15 craft breweries and 60 beers, according to visitMons, which cites the Deseveaux brewery, an award winner in international competitions, the Brasserie du Borinage and the Cours du Malt, which run guided tours. Belgian brewing know-how has been on UNESCO's intangible heritage list since 2016. For a brewery, the video tells the story of the craft: the brew, the vat, the labelling, the brewer explaining their recipe. As with any alcoholic drink, advertising platforms impose their own rules and Belgian law regulates advertising: we write scripts centred on production, origin and people, without staging excessive consumption. For a bar or restaurant serving these beers, a tasting Reel shot with a beer expert (a zythologist) adds expert credibility.
Murals, Van Gogh and slag heaps
L'Art habite la Ville turns Mons into an open-air exhibition, with works by international artists in the streets and shopping arteries. These murals give shopkeepers colourful, one-of-a-kind backgrounds for their TikToks, and give brands targeting 18 to 30-year-olds an instantly identifiable urban setting. visitMons also points out that Vincent van Gogh lived in the Mons-Borinage region from December 1878 to October 1880, in Wasmes and then Cuesmes, where he went from preacher to artist. This origin story interests cultural and tourism players. Finally, the slag heaps and cycle paths, which the tourist office highlights among its themes, open up outdoor settings for sport and cycling brands. We film the murals early in the morning, while the shopping streets are still empty.
Grand-Place, brewery and murals in a single day
The crew leaves Paris the day before and starts early, when the murals in the shopping streets are not yet hidden by passers-by. For a brewery, the morning is spent at the brewing, in the steam and noise of the vats; for a shop, inside before opening. Permits from the town and heritage sites are requested in advance, and casting takes place in Belgium, with creators whose accent and references resonate with people from Mons. In the afternoon, we gather the testimonials, then keep the end of the day for the Grand-Place and the Belfry. The videos are then adapted for the Belgian market, with hooks tested separately from those intended for France.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
