At the head of the Gulf of Morbihan, Vannes packs ramparts, gardens and half-timbered houses into a few hundred metres, right next to a marina. For a brand, that is a complete set without leaving the neighbourhood. According to Insee, the town had 55,790 inhabitants in 2023 but 46,585 jobs: it keeps a good part of the Morbihan at work. We travel from Paris with an approved shooting plan to film UGC content, TikToks and ads for Vannes shops, restaurants and businesses.
See our workAlmost as many jobs as residents
Two Insee figures sum up Vannes in 2023: 55,790 residents and 46,585 jobs in the town. Every day, part of the workforce comes in from the communes around the gulf and from inland to work in Vannes, and also does its shopping, appointments and outings there. The town's population has grown by 0.7% a year since 2017, entirely thanks to new arrivals, as natural change is negative. For a brand, that means three audiences: people from Vannes, employees coming from elsewhere and summer visitors. A Vannes ad can then be adapted into three variants, using the same footage but different opening seconds: the neighbourhood for residents, the car park or lunch break for workers, the walled town and the harbour for holidaymakers.
A fabric of services and small businesses
At the end of 2024, Insee counted 3,081 employer establishments in Vannes, of which 76.8% are in market services and 70.1% employ fewer than ten people. Industry accounts for just 4.6%. The economic landscape is that of a service-based prefecture: firms, agencies, independent shops, healthcare, business services. These organisations almost never have an in-house video team, yet their customers increasingly choose after seeing a face. For them, we shoot short series: the owner presenting their trade to camera, an employee explaining a service, a customer telling their story. These formats feed Instagram, LinkedIn and the Google listing for months. For a company that is hiring, a portrait shot at the office, with the gulf a stone's throw away, becomes an argument against bigger cities.
Halles des Lices and the Halle aux poissons
According to the town council, the Halles des Lices bring together 31 permanent traders, open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm, and the Halle aux poissons, place de la Poissonnerie, has 23, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm. The open-air market in the town centre sets up around the place des Lices, among the half-timbered houses. For a fishmonger, an oyster farmer or a crêpe maker, it is a setting no studio can replace: oysters opened in front of the camera, a galette browning on the bilig, a customer tasting. Restaurants on the harbour and in the walled town have every reason to publish these images before summer, when visitors choose their tables on Instagram. A UGC creator who does the market and then settles on a terrace can tell the story of a Vannes morning in twenty seconds.
Walled town, Connétable tower and marina
The town council lists the fortifications, the Prison and Saint-Vincent gates, the Connétable tower, Saint-Pierre cathedral, the Cohue and the half-timbered houses of the walled town as its major medieval sites. The ramparts garden, with its wash-houses at the foot of the walls, is the shot everybody recognises. The harbour, at the end of rue Saint-Vincent, opens onto the gulf and its islands, ideal for maritime, boating or tourism brands. Between 1675 and 1689, Vannes was also the town of exile for the Parliament of Brittany, which explains the grand townhouses in the south of the walled town. As for the seasons, summer fills the streets and terraces, spring and September offer soft light and clear ramparts, and the town lends itself to the guided night walks run by the council.
From Montparnasse to the ramparts
We travel to Vannes by train from Gare Montparnasse, with light equipment suited to cobbled streets. Preparation is done remotely: script, hooks, casting, remote location scouting and, when we film in the street or in a garden, the permit application to the town council. On site, the day starts early in the walled town, before the strollers arrive, then at the Halles for the traders' gestures. Late morning and early afternoon are for interviews on your premises. Exterior shots on the harbour or in the ramparts garden are filmed at the end of the day, when the light skims the walls, along with a UGC creator speaking straight to camera for the ads. Editing resumes in Paris the next day, with one version per network, ready to publish.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
