In 2028, Bourges will become the fifth French city to be European Capital of Culture, after Paris, Avignon, Lille and Marseille-Provence. Companies in Bourges therefore have two years to prepare their imagery. The municipality had 64,186 residents in 2023 according to Insee, and its urban area presents itself as the capital of land armaments. From our premises in the 8th arrondissement, we head down to the Cher with cameras and microphones to capture UGC content, Reels, TikTok and Meta ads, from the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne to the banks of the Yèvre.
See our work64,186 residents of Bourges and a young audience not to be overlooked
Insee's historical series shows a town that has lost residents since 1975, when it had 77,300; the 2023 census counts 64,186. The age pyramid nonetheless remains balanced: 15 to 24-year-olds make up 14.4% of the population in 2023 and 65 to 79-year-olds 15.6%. A shopkeeper therefore has two audiences within a single town. TikTok and Reels reach students and young professionals, while Facebook still carries weight with a more mature clientele that shops in the town centre. We often build a single shoot to feed both: a spontaneous to-camera take for the younger audience, a calmer version with a customer testimonial for the others. Casting follows the same logic, with creators of different ages and profiles, chosen according to the product's real target.
The defence sector, from the CID to Cher subcontractors
The Bourges urban area claims the title of capital of land armaments and has run, since 2018, a Centre de ressources des Industries de la Défense, the CID, which supports manufacturers and start-ups in the sector. According to the CID, the defence industrial and technological base of Centre-Val de Loire comprises more than 230 establishments, with more than a third of the workforce in the Cher. In the municipality, Insee records 5,341 economically active establishments in 2024, including 286 in industry and 993 in specialised activities and business support services. At these employers, moving image rarely sells to the general public. It helps attract engineers, technicians and apprentices, and present expertise at a trade show or in a bid, by filming the gestures and the teams without revealing anything covered by industrial secrecy.
City-centre shops, forestines and 17 hotels
Trade, transport, accommodation and food services total 1,545 active establishments in Bourges in 2024, or 28.9% of the local business base, and this sector accounted for 325 of the 825 business start-ups in 2025. Many of these new shops need to get known quickly with little advertising budget: a series of three UGC videos shot in the shop with a real customer covers the opening, the star products and the instant verdict. On the accommodation side, the municipality had 17 hotels and 893 rooms on 1 January 2026. For restaurants on the cobbled streets around place Gordaine, the terrace at sunset and the kitchen rush make the best Reels, especially when the plate speaks of the Berry. The forestine, a filled sweet born in Bourges, also lends itself very well to a close-up for a confectioner or a local-produce shop.
Printemps de Bourges, Nuits Lumière and the Yèvre marshes
The Printemps de Bourges, created in April 1977, celebrated its 50th edition in 2026 and reports more than 250,000 festivalgoers in its venues, on the squares and in the streets; the 51st is scheduled for 20 to 25 April 2027. On those days, the whole of Bourges is on camera: better to have your content wrapped before the opening. From May to September, the Nuits Lumière project the town's history onto the façades, from 7 May to 19 September in 2026, at nightfall: a free trail launched back in 1999 that provides night-time settings with no lighting to set up. By day, the 135 hectares of listed marshes offer punts, gardens and paths for a lifestyle shoot. The Cathédrale Saint-Étienne, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992, provides a backdrop that the whole of the Berry recognises at first glance.
How we shoot in Bourges ahead of 2028
Before coming, we agree with you a precise objective for each video: bring in customers, recruit, prepare for a trade show. Location scouting is done from maps and photos, then the team leaves Paris early to start in the morning. Exteriors come first, in the half-timbered streets or along the Yèvre, while the town is still calm. The following hours go to interiors, workshop, shop, kitchen or offices, with the people who work there rather than extras. The studio set up by Tony Lo has worked with more than 350 brands and keeps its working habits in Bourges: lots of short takes, subtitles on every version and several different openings per ad, to measure what really holds the Bourges audience. As the capital year approaches, building a bank of footage now avoids having to shoot everything in a rush.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
