Every June, Annecy becomes the world capital of animation: the 2026 edition of the Festival international du film d'animation brought together 19,100 accredited attendees, a record according to its organisers. The rest of the year, the city lives off its mountain brands, its lake and its 132,117 inhabitants recorded by Insee in 2023. We make the journey from rue du Colisée to produce social ads, UGC videos and TikTok formats that really look like Haute-Savoie, without a postcard slapped on top.
See our workSalomon, Millet, Fusalp: the valley of outdoor brands
On its economic website, the Grand Annecy cites a list that few urban areas can match: Salomon, Millet, Eider, TSL, Fusalp, Lafuma, Tecnica France, Odlo and The North Face have set up design offices, head offices or factories there. The Outdoor Sports Valley cluster claims 535 members and more than 7,700 employees. For these companies, social video is no gimmick: a trail shoe test filmed on the Semnoz, a jacket tried out in the rain on a mountain pass, a product engineer explaining a membrane in thirty seconds. These are formats that sell online and recruit at the same time, because the profiles they are looking for (designers, textile technicians, product managers) also spend their evenings on Instagram. A start-up that has come through the Annecy Base Camp incubator is better off shooting its first ads with its founders out in the field rather than in a studio.
A city of 132,117 inhabitants that works more than it sleeps
Since the 2017 merger, Annecy brings together the former communes of Annecy-le-Vieux, Seynod, Cran-Gevrier, Meythet and Pringy. Insee counts 132,117 inhabitants there in 2023, against 126,924 in 2017, and 75,614 jobs for 62,555 employed resident workers: the city draws in workers every day who live elsewhere. The 25 to 39 age group makes up 21.8% of the population. Of 18,536 economically active establishments in 2024, 4,252 carry out specialised, scientific and technical activities or business services, and 3,563 sell, transport, accommodate or serve food. In practical terms, a brand targeting Annecy is speaking to young, sporty professionals, often managers, who are very demanding about authenticity. The UGC casting must reflect that profile, with creators who genuinely practise the discipline they present.
From the Thiou to the Pâquier, recognisable settings
The Palais de l'Isle, set like a stone ship in the middle of the Thiou, is according to the tourist office the most photographed monument on the lake. The cobbled alleys and arcades of the old town, nicknamed the Venice of the Alps, give an instantly identifiable backdrop to a Reel for a restaurant or a chocolatier. For shopkeepers, the competition is real: in 2025 Insee counts 108 bakery-pâtisseries and 227 hairdressing salons in the commune. A bakery that wants to stand out films its bake room at dawn, a Savoyard restaurant shows the crust of a tartiflette coming out of the oven, a hairdresser posts their transformations as UGC. To accommodate visitors, the commune has 46 hotels and 2,311 rooms according to Insee's early-2026 inventory. A lakeside hotel does well to publish videos designed for foreign customers, subtitled and shot from the room or the jetty.
Animation studios and festival week
The Grand Annecy points out that more than 100 animation, 3D, special effects and video game companies are based in Haute-Savoie, for more than 1,000 jobs, 30% of them in the Annecy area. Citia, a public body created in 2006, runs the festival and the Mifa, its professional market. In 2026, the festival took place from 21 to 27 June and the Mifa from 23 to 26 June, with 7,180 Mifa attendees and more than 145 films in official selection; this edition also saw the opening of the Cité internationale du cinéma d'animation. For a studio, this is the window when recruiters, broadcasters and candidates are all looking in the same direction: a team presentation video or a short making-of is published during festival week. The shoot is therefore prepared as early as spring, while teams still have time.
Planning your visit around the lake, season by season
We prepare everything remotely: script, shot list, casting of Haute-Savoie creators, permit requests for the quais or the Pâquier. The team arrives by train at Annecy station, a few minutes' walk from the old town, with equipment that fits in backpacks, which matters when a shot takes place on a trail. The season guides the schedule. On the first Saturday in August, the Fête du lac draws nearly 200,000 spectators around the baie d'Albigny for 70 minutes of pyrotechnics, a tradition born from a Venetian festival held in 1860 for Napoleon III's visit: the shores are then saturated, so we shoot the day before or use it as an evening backdrop. The Grand Annecy also cites the Triathlon international du lac, the Maxi Race and the High Five festival, three events where an outdoor brand can capture athletes in real conditions.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
