On Thursday mornings, the halle Marcadieu hosts what the tourist office describes as the biggest weekly producers' market in the South-West. Tarbais beans, Bigorre black pork, gâteau à la broche: the raw material for a good Reel is already there. All around, a prefecture of 44,399 inhabitants according to the 2023 Insee census, younger than you might think, with the Pyrenees at the end of the streets. Esekai, Tony Lo's Paris studio, prepares creative ads, UGC and TikTok shoots for Tarbes businesses from Paris.
See our workMarcadieu on Thursdays, Brauhauban all week
Tarbes has two covered markets and two atmospheres, according to the tourist office. Marcadieu runs on the rhythm of the big Thursday producers' market, with its stalls of local cheeses, Barèges mutton and foie gras. Brauhauban, completely renovated, draws those who like to eat well in a more urban setting. For a producer, a wine merchant or a restaurant in the centre, what hooks people on Instagram is the product before the plate: the Tarbais beans being shelled, the meat cut in front of the customer, then the dish served in the dining room. Insee counts 1,068 Tarbes establishments, 24.8% of the total, in trade, accommodation, food service and transport in 2024, and 252 companies in that category were created in 2025. A restaurant that is about to open has every reason to publish its first TikTok before opening day.
44,399 inhabitants, 8,407 of them aged 15 to 24
The 2023 census gives Tarbes 44,399 inhabitants, up from 41,518 in 2017. The figure that surprises lies elsewhere: the 15-24 age group accounts for 8,407 inhabitants, 18.9% of the population, and the 25-39 group for 18.1%. The town is home to the École nationale d'ingénieurs de Tarbes, among others. For a brand, this audience is reached on TikTok and in Reels, with creators of its own generation, filmed in its own landmarks: a square in the centre, a student bar, the forecourt of a lycée. The commune also concentrates 28,217 jobs in 2023 for 15,256 employed Tarbes residents: a good share of employees therefore commute every day from neighbouring communes, which suggests targeting ads at the wider urban area rather than the town alone.
Healthcare workers, civil servants and paratroopers
Public administration, education, health and social work provide 13,938 jobs in Tarbes in 2023 according to Insee, 49.6% of the total. Prefecture, hospital, clinics, schools: these employers are looking for healthcare workers, teachers and technicians, and a testimonial filmed in a real department is more convincing than a written job ad. On the garrison side, the town hall states that two regiments are still based in Tarbes, the 1er régiment de hussards parachutistes and the 35e régiment d'artillerie parachutiste. Industry has left a strong mark: an arsenal was established in 1871, then artillery production employed up to 16,000 women workers during the First World War. Today, the 4,305 active establishments recorded in 2024 are mostly SMEs: for them, a portrait of the owner and three short formats are often enough to launch a video presence on LinkedIn and Meta.
The 1806 Haras, the jardin Massey and August tango
Napoléon Ier created a national stud farm in Tarbes in 1806, which gave rise to the Anglo-Arab breed, the town recalls. The site hosts the 30th edition of Equestria from 21 to 26 July 2026, a festival dedicated to horses and the arts. A few weeks later, Tarbes en Tango, organised every year by the town, the tourist office and the association Tangueando Ibos, takes over the streets from 14 to 23 August 2026 with classes, shows and milongas, the Argentine tango dances. The jardin Massey, 11 hectares bequeathed by the landscape gardener Placide Massey and listed as a Jardin remarquable, offers a cloister, an orangery and the Moorish tower of the musée Massey, which houses the international hussars museum. In summer it opens at 7 a.m.: that is the slot for filming a jewellery designer or a fashion brand with no passers-by, among the flower beds and under a still-low sun.
Organising a Tarbes shoot from Paris
Here, logistics are settled earlier than elsewhere. We set the shoot day on a Thursday whenever a brief involves food, to make the most of the Marcadieu market. The script, permits and selection of Bigorre creators are handled remotely, then the crew arrives the day before, by train or by plane depending on the connections at the time. The day starts at the market when the stalls open, continues at lunchtime in a dining room, at a restaurateur's, then shifts in the afternoon to the client's premises, clinic, practice or workshop, to capture testimonials and the gestures of the trade. If the sky is clear, we finish at the jardin Massey or at a high point where the Pyrenean chain stands out. Back in Paris for the edit: each film comes out with three or four different openings, which paid distribution then sorts out.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
