Georges Méliès set up his studio in Montreuil, and the city still lives largely off the image: five theatres and 140 companies counted by Est Ensemble, the Murs à pêches, the children's book fair. Insee counts 111,934 residents there in 2023, with a density of 12,548.7 inhabitants per km². For a brand looking for a video agency in Montreuil, Esekai takes line 9 from rue du Colisée to the terminus at Mairie de Montreuil, kit on shoulder. We write, film and edit creative ads, UGC content and TikToks designed for this specific audience.
See our workA population that has changed its face in ten years
The municipality had 103,520 residents in 2012 and 111,934 in 2023, according to Insee's full file. The most telling figure for a brand lies elsewhere: the share of managers and higher intellectual professions among those aged 15 or over rose from 14.7% in 2012 to 22.3% in 2023, while that of manual workers fell from 12.5% to 9.1%. Those aged 25 to 39 make up 23.6% of the population. In practice, Montreuil brings together two audiences who do not scroll the same videos: ever more numerous managers, often recently arrived, and more modest households who have made the city for decades. An ad that speaks to both must show credible faces and interiors on both sides. It is first of all a question of UGC casting, well before the edit.
More jobs than working residents, from the Porte to Bas-Montreuil
Montreuil attracts more workers than it houses. Insee counts 61,196 jobs there in 2023 for 51,422 employed residents living in the municipality, an employment concentration indicator of 119. Est Ensemble, for its part, estimates that 26,600 people come to work there every day and that 6,600 establishments are listed in the business register. This mix of office headquarters, workshops and small companies calls for very different formats. A large office site needs short team portraits for LinkedIn and Instagram, shot in the real open-plan offices, with employees talking about their job without a teleprompter. A cabinetmaker or a ceramicist in Bas-Montreuil sells better with forty seconds of close-up filmed craftsmanship than with a brochure. A young brand launching a product does well to start with three or four ad angles that can be tested from the first week.
Markets, Croix de Chavaux and the porte flea market
Montreuil's commerce is lived in the street. Est Ensemble counts 7 street markets and 2 shopping centres there, and the intercommunal fact sheet notes that cafés and restaurants accounted for 300 of the 1,153 active shops in 2008. For a restaurant or delicatessen, it is a ready-made set: a Reel that follows the chef from the vegetable stall to the plate takes thirty seconds and is shot in a morning. The cinema Le Méliès, a municipal arthouse cinema on place Jean-Jaurès, provides a backdrop every resident recognises. Beware of a classic trap: the famous flea markets of the porte de Montreuil are on the Paris side, in the 20th arrondissement, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. They remain a perfect ground for a second-hand fashion brand that wants UGC videos of hunting and trying on.
From the Murs à pêches in May to the children's book fair in November
Montreuil's calendar sets a good rhythm for a season of content. At the end of May, the Festival des Murs à pêches has enlivened this 35-hectare site in upper Montreuil every year since 2000, with free-donation entry, under the aegis of the Fédération des murs à pêches; the 2026 edition ran from 22 to 24 May. Outside the festival, these plots ringed by old walls offer a soft light for a cosmetics shoot or a gardening brand. At the end of November, the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse takes over Paris Montreuil Expo, 128 rue de Paris: its 42nd edition runs from 25 to 30 November 2026, and the organisers expect 200,000 visitors and nearly 400 exhibitors, after 196,000 visitors in 2025. For a publisher, it is the right moment to film authors and readers.
Marionnaud, born in Montreuil in 1984
Our link with Montreuil runs through a brand founded here in 1984: Marionnaud. For its 40th anniversary, in 2024, we created its official TikTok account, @marionnaudfrance, from A to Z. The account went from 0 to 10K followers, passed 290k views, and its launch was picked up by several national media outlets, including Gala. For a Montreuil shoot, the organisation remains simple: line 9 links our offices in the 8th arrondissement directly to the centre of Montreuil, and for a heavier set the access by car goes via the porte de Montreuil or the A3. We do the scouting and permit requests before the date, then chain three to four settings in the day, for example a shop, a creator's flat and an exterior.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
