In Aubagne, clay keeps the town alive: santon makers' workshops, potters in the old town and Argilla, a biennial fair that brought nearly 200 ceramicists from 17 countries to the pedestrianised streets in 2025. Insee counts 47,529 residents there in 2023 and 28,879 jobs, well above the number of working residents. Our Paris studio travels down to shoot adverts for TikTok and Instagram, UGC and Reels for brands that speak to the people of Aubagne as well as to visitors who come for Pagnol or for ceramics.
See our work47,529 residents and more jobs than working residents
Aubagne's population has grown from 27,938 in 1968 to 47,529 in 2023, according to Insee's full municipal file. For an advertiser, the telling figure lies elsewhere: the town offers 28,879 jobs while 18,853 of its residents are in work, which puts the employment concentration index at 153.2. Many of those who shop, have lunch or pop into a shop in Aubagne on weekdays therefore live in another municipality. That changes the targeting: a Meta campaign limited to residents leaves out the employees who are there every day. So we split each ad into two variants, one aimed at residents (Saturdays, family, the old town), the other at those who work there (lunch break, after the office, the commute), with different hooks tested in parallel.
Les Paluds, 600 companies in a single zone
The Paluds industrial zone, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018 according to the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, had 600 companies and 6,000 jobs according to a 2017 metropolitan council resolution. The Nouveaux Paluds project covers 114.8 hectares and aims for 65 employees per hectare, with 800 to 900 new jobs. For these productive SMEs, the video needs are concrete: a portrait of a forklift driver or a technician to recruit, a machine demo filmed in the workshop for LinkedIn, a managing director's presentation ahead of a trade show. The local business fabric keeps renewing itself: Insee records 1,011 business start-ups in Aubagne in 2025, including 230 consulting, engineering and business-services companies. A young company often has everything to show at once; a short series shot on its premises gives it its first adverts and enough material to feed its social channels for several weeks.
Santons, workshops and restaurants in the old town
Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Tourisme lists some forty potters' and ceramicists' workshops in the historic centre and its surroundings, and a pottery tradition dating back to Gallo-Roman times. At the Petit Monde de Marcel Pagnol, an exhibition presents more than 200 santons. It is material that can be filmed without artifice: hands shaping a santon, painting with a fine brush, the piece coming out of the kiln. In a Reel, these gestures hook viewers in three seconds, and a craftsperson who sells online can build an entire campaign from them. The restaurants in the centre benefit from the same approach: a Provençal plate filmed in tight close-up, service on the terrace, the owner's voice. As for accommodation, Aubagne had 5 hotels with a total of 301 rooms at the start of 2026, according to Insee; many visitors come for the day, and it is to them that the TikTok content, to be published before their visit, is addressed.
The Garlaban, Pagnol's home town and the summers of Argilla
Marcel Pagnol was born in Aubagne in 1895 and lived there until he was three, before his family left for Marseille. Above the town, the Garlaban peaks at 715 metres; Pagnol filmed La fille du puisatier and Manon des sources in its hills, notes Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Tourisme. For a cosmetics, delicatessen or sports brand, these garrigue trails make a backdrop that Provençal audiences recognise immediately. In summer, outdoor scenes are filmed at dawn or after 6 p.m., in low-angle light and heat that is still bearable. Argilla, created in 1991, returns in August in odd-numbered years: the 2025 edition, the 17th, had Italy as its guest. In even-numbered years, the santon art biennial brings together some fifty craftspeople before Christmas, a period that suits gift and craft content well.
Our typical day between the station and Les Paluds
We leave Paris by train to Marseille, then take a TER that stops at Aubagne, a short distance from the old town. The shoot is prepared remotely: script approval, shot list, permits when we film on the street, and casting of UGC creators from the Marseille area if the brand wants local faces. A classic day starts in a santon maker's workshop before opening, moves on to the lunchtime rush of a Provençal restaurant, spends the afternoon at an SME in Les Paluds (employee testimonials, machines running), and ends on the lower slopes of the Garlaban as the sun goes down. Back in Paris, we edit the rushes: Esekai, founded by Tony Lo, has more than 350 client brands, and every shoot feeds a series of ad variations.
Why creative ads deliver better results
An ad that looks like an ad gets skipped in a second. A creative ad works on the hook, the message and the format so it is watched to the end, then tested and adapted for as long as it converts.
